The IED Serbia Project a part of the “EU Green Day” in Subotica

After Šabac and Užice, the “EU Green Day” was also held in Subotica as a part of the EU campaign “Look around – Move”. Panel discussion on the involvement of local stakeholders in environmental protection and presentation of successful projects in this field funded from EU member states was opened by the Head of the European Union Delegation to Serbia, Ambassador Sam Fabrici. Representatives of the IED Project, Riccardo Quaggiato, key technical expert of the project, and Aleksandar Ćosović, expert for IPPC farms, also attended the dialogue with the representatives of civil society organisations held at the Open University in Subotica.

During the discussion, Mr. Quaggiato pointed out that within the first component of the IED Serbia Project, Specific Implementation Plan for the Implementation of the Industrial Emissions Directive (DSIP for IED) was drafted, as contribution of the project to the negotiating position for Chapter 27. He also noted that through this activity, the project team analysed more than 200 operators from different industrial sectors throughout Serbia, collecting data needed to assess their compliance with the European Union standards. In addition, Mr. Ćosović commenting the EU investment in agricultural sector in Serbia, he emphasised the support that the Kingdom of Sweden has been providing so far by financing the projects on IPPC farms and IED in Serbia, thus providing direct support to operators and authorities in meeting their obligations arising from the Law on Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control.

In addition to the above, the discussion was also participated by Sakellaris Hourdas, Head of the Operations Department of the EU Delegation to Serbia, Žika Reh, Director of the Department for Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development of the City Administration of Subotica, Nataša Đereg, Director of the Centre for Ecology and Sustainable Development in Subotica (CEKOR), and Snježana Mitrović from the sector for sustainable development of the Open University in Subotica, as the host of the event. The discussion was also attended by representatives of civil society organisations of North Bačka, as well as interested public.
