May Mission of International Experts Dedicated to Enhancing Environmental Inspections

At the end of May, a new mission of international experts from Ireland, Patrick Lawrence Sweeney and Tom Stafford, was carried out within the IED Serbia project. The activities were organised as part of the support provided to strengthen the capacities of environmental inspectorates, with the aim of improving the practical knowledge and skills of inspectors responsible for enforcing the requirements of the IPPC Law.

During the mission, field training sessions were conducted through simulated inspection activities across different industrial sectors. The training covered the preparation and planning of environmental inspections, on-site assessment of installation operations through the exchange of experience with Irish experts, and reporting on completed inspection activities.

The first visit took place at the Knauf Insulation facility in Surdulica, a company engaged in the production of insulation materials such as blowing and glass mineral wool. The mission continued with training activities at the HBIS Group Serbia Iron & Steel, Tinplate Mill facility in Šabac, a steel and tinplate production installation, and at the Krivi Vir heating plant in Niš, operated by the Public Utility Company Gradska Toplana Niš. The mission concluded with a visit to the Župa Chemical Industry in Kruševac, a company engaged in the production of pesticides and technical chemicals.
