Team from the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy reaches the final of an international student competition on sustainability in the food industry

Students of the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy, University of Belgrade, successfully represented Serbia at the international “Anthropocene Case Competition,” organised from 13 to 15 May 2026 by the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE) and Bonafarm Group. The team ranked among the 13 best teams selected to take part in the final stage of the competition, held in Gödöllő, among 85 participating teams from 26 countries worldwide.

The competition focused on developing innovative solutions for challenges in the food industry, with a particular emphasis on sustainability and the circular economy. During several months of preparation and case study development, the students received expert support from the IED Serbia project through mentoring and consultations in the fields of environmental protection, sustainable resource management, and the application of best available techniques in intensive livestock production.

The competition was open to international student teams enrolled in BSc, MSc, or PhD programmes at the time of application. Our three-member team, “Circle2,” consisted of students Mihaela Novaković, Kristijan Pete, and team leader Petar Stepanović, under the mentorship of Professor Aleksandra Đukić-Vuković. Through their work, the team developed solutions aimed at improving the management of animal by-products in intensive poultry production.

The team’s participation and placement among the best represents significant recognition for the students and confirms the quality of the knowledge and skills they acquire during their studies. With the expert support of the IED Serbia project, the students further strengthened their competencies while developing innovative solutions in the fields of sustainable industry and environmental protection.
