Integrated Permit Issued to Umka Cardboard Factory

The Ministry of Environmental Protection of the Republic of Serbia has adopted a Decision issuing an integrated permit to the operator Umka Cardboard Factory Ltd. Umka for the operation of its industrial cardboard production facility.

The draft integrated permit was prepared within the “IED Serbia” project, in cooperation with representatives of the Ministry and with the involvement of international and national project experts. As part of the “EU for the Green Agenda in Serbia” project, implemented by UNDP Serbia, the company prepared and submitted its application for the integrated permit together with all supporting documentation.

The Umka factory specialises in the production of recycled cardboard using collected waste paper and cardboard and is the only facility in Serbia engaged in this type of production. The plant has been operating at this location since 1939 and currently has an annual capacity of approximately 200,000 tonnes.

The company has made significant progress by upgrading its wastewater treatment system, one of the key requirements for compliance with European standards. The issuance of this permit confirms Umka’s commitment to the application of best available techniques and to the continued improvement of environmental protection in line with European regulations.

The notice on the issuance of the integrated permit to this operator, together with access to the Decision, has been published on the official website of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of the Republic of Serbia.
