March Mission of International Experts within the IED Serbia Project

In addition to the two-day workshop for competent authorities responsible for issuing integrated permits, the March mission of international experts within the IED Serbia project continued efforts to strengthen the capacities of environmental inspection through field training.

International experts from Ireland, Patrick Lawrence Sweeney and Tom Stafford, together with the project team, conducted a series of activities aimed at improving the monitoring and control of installations subject to the Law on Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control.

The training focused on key aspects of the inspection process, including planning and preparation of inspections, conducting site visits through practical simulations in the field, and reporting on inspection findings.

To ensure comprehensive training across different industrial sectors and provide inspectors with hands-on experience in monitoring installations facing diverse environmental challenges, on-site inspection simulations were carried out in several companies. The first visits took place at “Tiki” in Stara Pazova, a company specialising in the production of water heaters and heating appliances, and “Messer Tehnogas” in Belgrade, which manufactures industrial and medical gases. As part of the mission, a simulated inspection was also conducted at “Smurfit Kappa” in Belgrade, a facility engaged in paper production and processing.
