The Conference on the Implementation of Best Available Techniques in Food Processing Industry held in Novi Sad

The “IED Serbia” project was successfully presented at the conference on the implementation of Best Available Techniques (BAT) in slaughterhouses and animal by-products industry, held in late November in Novi Sad. The conference was organised by the “Carnex” company, in collaboration with the “EU for Green Agenda in Serbia” and “Green Transition – Implementing Industrial Emissions Directive in Serbia (IED Serbia)” projects.

This event was an opportunity to present the results of the “IED Serbia” project to the wider professional audience and to promote key goals, while achieving greater visibility of the project. The conference was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, Sweden, operators from the food processing sector, as well as members of the academic community.

Mrs Bojana Vukadinović, the IED Serbia project manager, presented the project activities aimed at supporting operators in the food industry. Technical expert of the project, Mr Aleksandar Ćosović, presented a new reference document on Best Available Techniques in slaughterhouses and animal by-products industry, as well as a project brochure with guidelines for the application of these techniques pursuant to the Industrial Emissions Directive.

The Carnex company presented its project “Use of Animal By-products from the Food Industry for Energy Generation in a Biogas Plant”, with which it participated in the acceleration programme of the “EU for Green Agenda in Serbia” project. The application for integrated permit for the “Carnex” company was updated during the previous phase of the “IED Serbia” project, as well as the draft integrated permit in cooperation with the Municipality of Vrbas.

At the end of the conference, a discussion was organised to enable exchange of opinions and conclusions among all relevant stakeholders, further strengthening their cooperation in order to improve sustainable industrial practices in Serbia.
